Повечето мъже смятат, че са естествено по-здрави от другите • Earth.com

Orlando Health Physician Associates.

two-thirds (65%) believe they are naturally healthier than others in general. This is statistically impossible, argues Dr. Thomas Kelley, a family medicine specialist at Orlando Health Physician Associates.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“Even if you think you’re healthy and you’re not experiencing any symptoms, there can be developing issues that often go unnoticed and can also be life-threatening if left unchecked. Some of those include rising blood pressure that can be a ticking time bomb for a heart attack or stroke, as well as colon cancer, which is one of the most deadly yet preventable cancers that exist.”u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eAs a primary care physician, Dr. Kelley has heard many excuses from his male patients as to why they skip appointments. It takes about half an hour and by the end of the appointment you have the big picture about where you stand, what you’re at risk for and what you need to do for your health in the future.”u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eKelley says building trust with your doctor can reduce nerves and help make conversations comfortable, which often creates confidence in returning.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eBut first, doctors need to get patients in the door. screen time increases the prevalence of obesity, dyslipidemia, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes. This study is an extension of Dr. Gupta’s previous research, in which she examined the role of mobile devices overuse in health care settings, and found that devices such as smartphones or tablets are often a source of distraction, errors, procrastination, and inefficiency for clinicians, often leading to an increased risk of burnout.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eIn the new study investigating the impact of mobile devices overuse on the general population, Dr. Gupta has found that each hour per day increase in screen time was correlated with a 0.05 to 0.07 increase in body mass index (BMI), most likely caused by online food marketing, distracted eating, and procrastination of physical activities. Moreover, sleep disturbances, daytime tiredness, depression, the odds of using illegal substances, and various cognitive and behavioral issues were also linked to the overuse of mobile devices.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“As a pediatric endocrinologist, the trend in smartphone-associated health disorders (obesity, sleep, and behavior issues) worries me. To further understand the phenomenon and hopefully find possible solutions, the scientists plan to carry out more research.u0026nbsp;u0026nbsp;u0026nbsp;u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph among animals. It is what gives many butterflies their bright blue coloring, or the peacock’s otherwise brown feathers their brilliant greens. This optical illusion of sorts is produced by microscopically structured surfaces fine enough to interfere with light, and is very rare in the plant world. Until now, only six species of plants have been found to produce their fruits’ hues using structural color.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eWhat makes u003cemu003eL. strigocamara u003c/emu003especial is that it creates this structural color in the skin of its berries by using layers of lipid molecules, or fats – a phenomenon previously documented in only one other plant species, u003ca href=”https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/11/science/blue-fruits-viburnum.html”u003eu003cemu003eViburnum tinusu003c/emu003eu003c/au003eu003cemu003e.u003c/emu003e To create their unique colors, u003cemu003eL. strigocamarau003c/emu003e’su003cemu003e u003c/emu003eblue fruits use microscopic structures in their skin to manipulate light and reflect the wavelengths human eyes perceive as blue, giving them a distinctive metallic finish.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThus, structurally-colored berries have no color within themselves: when they are peeled and held up to the light, for instance, they look completely translucent. However, when placed against a dark background, they look blue again, due to nanostructures on their surface that are responsible for reflecting the color.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThe scientists argue that, in evolutionary terms, structural coloring may help with seed dispersal, which could explain the fact that the handful of plants known to use this strategy are highly invasive and spread all over the world.u003cemu003e u003c/emu003eBy providing a strong contrast with the surrounding foliage, the mechanic, shiny nature of their fruit perhaps attracts animals to eat them and spread their seeds. Moreover, this theory could also fit with the fact that humans are highly interested in using these plants in horticulture.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“The fact that they made their way into horticulture suggests that we are susceptible to the same things are that other animals find attractive about them,” explained study co-author Stacey Smith, a professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the u003ca href=”https://www.colorado.edu/”u003eUniversity of Colorado, Boulderu003c/au003e. “We’re like, oh, look at that sparkly, cute thing. According to study lead author Miranda Sinnott-Armstrong, a postdoctoral fellow at UC Boulder, so few of such plants have been found until now simply because people were not actively looking for them. “They’re out there. In a new study, a team of researchers from the u003ca href=”https://dornsife.usc.edu/”u003eUSC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciencesu003c/au003e has found that the inner core oscillates, contradicting previously proposed models that suggested it consistently rotates at a faster rate than the Earth’s surface. u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eBy analyzing seismic data, the experts discovered that the inner core changed direction in the six-year period from 1969 to 1974, a phenomenon that also explains the variation in the length of day that has been shown to oscillate persistently during the past few decades.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“From our findings, we can see the Earth’s surface shifts compared to its inner core, as people have asserted for 20 years,” said study co-author John E. Vidale, a professor of Earth Sciences at USC Dornsife. “However, our latest observations show that the inner core spun slightly slower from 1969-71 and then moved the other direction from 1971-74. We also note that the length of day grew and shrank as would be predicted. The coincidence of those two observations makes oscillation the likely interpretation.”u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eBy analyzing seismic waves generated from Soviet underground nuclear bomb tests from 1971 to 1974 in the Arctic archipelago Novaya Zemlya, Professor Vidale and his colleagues found that the inner core rotated slower than previously predicted (approximately 0.1 degrees per year). Applying the same methodology to a pair of earlier atomic tests beneath Amchitka Island at the tip of the Alaskan archipelago, the researchers were surprised to discover that the inner core had reversed direction, sub-rotating at least a tenth of degree per year.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“The idea the inner core oscillates was a model that was out there, but the community has been split on whether it was viable,” Professor Vidale explained. “We went into this expecting to see the same rotation direction and rate in the earlier pair of atomic tests, but instead we saw the opposite. –u003enu003cpu003eSubstantial areas of Alaska are underlain by permafrost, which is ground below the surface that remains permanently frozen throughout the year. It contains large amounts of biomass and decomposed biomass that has been stored as methane and carbon dioxide, making this frozen soil a carbon sink. However, as global warming raises temperatures the permafrost is likely to degrade and thaw in places, leading to the occurrence of areas within the permafrost that remain unfrozen all year round.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eScientists from the u003ca href=”https://www.uaf.edu/”u003eUniversity of Alaska Fairbanksu003c/au003e have been monitoring ground temperatures at sites spread around Alaska and have noted some alarming changes in the permafrost in several locations. In particular, they have recorded an increased occurrence of taliks, which are layers of unfrozen ground that develop within or underneath the permafrost. Talik formation has long been acknowledged as an important mechanism of permafrost degradation.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThe scientists, all from the Geophysical Institute at UAF, analyzed ground temperature data between 1999 and 2020 from dozens of Alaskan sites in the Permafrost Laboratory monitoring network. They then selected 54 of those sites for further study, encompassing an area of approximately 116,000 square miles. The scientists noticed that, although talik formation had been a rare and short-lived event in the 50–60 years prior to 2017, it has accelerated considerably since then.u0026nbsp;u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eTaliks can occur at a variety of locations in the permafrost. A closed talik is thawed ground completely enclosed within the permafrost, while an open talik may form underneath a lake or river where the deep water does not freeze in winter and thus the soil underneath does not freeze either. Taliks can also cut through the whole permafrost column where the frozen layer is thin, often due to the presence of rivers or lakes. The unfrozen sediments of taliks may extend many tens of meters.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThe researchers observed incomplete freezing and the early stages of talik formation at 24 of the 54 sites, during the winter of 2017-2018. This was a significant increase from the three instances recorded during the previous year. They attributed this change to higher air temperature and above average snowfall. Because of its insulating properties, heavy snow slows the transfer of heat from the ground to the atmosphere, thereby increasingu0026nbsp;the amount of time needed for the ground to refreeze and, in some cases, preventing a complete refreeze.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eIn the past, taliks were primarily associated with rivers and thaw lakes and in areas affected by wildfires, which remove thermally protective vegetation and therefore allow for deeper summer thaw. However, none of the sites studied by the UAF team in the current investigation had been affected by disturbances such as surface water bodies or wildfire.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“We’re in a transition phase where we commonly see talik formation but also can see them refreeze if we have a year with low snow and very cold winter temperatures or a cool summer,” explained Louise Farquharson, a research assistant professor and author of the research paper. “After approximately 2030, however, our air temperatures in the summer and winter will warm up enough that we’re going to have talik formation no matter what the snow does.”u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“I think it’s important for people to know that what we have seen so far with permafrost degradation in Fairbanks, for example, is not a steady state. The rate and extent of permafrost degradation is probably going to accelerate as talik development really kicks in.”u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThe researchers predict that more taliks will form in a wider area of Alaska as summer and winter temperatures increase and the depth of summer ground thaw begins to exceed the depth of winter freeze. This may lead to consequences such as the movement of material previously locked in the frozen ground, and the release of previously trapped methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. New research from Japan has found that infants can act on moral judgments, shedding light on the origin of morality.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eResearchers at u003ca href=”https://www.osaka-u.ac.jp/en”u003eOsaka Universityu003c/au003e revealed that 8-month-old infants can punish antisocial behavior exhibited by others. This led the experts to conclude that the motivation driving punishment might be intrinsic as opposed to learned.u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eAcross all cultures, punishing antisocial behavior is only found in humans. However, how we develop moral behavior is not well understood as it can be difficult to examine decision making in infants. The researchers at Osaka University aimed to address this.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“Morality is an important but mysterious part of what makes us human,” said study lead author of Yasuhiro Kanakogi. “We wanted to know whether third-party punishment of antisocial others is present at a very young age, because this would help to signal whether morality is learned.”u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eFor the investigation, the experts developed a new research paradigm. First, infants were familiarized with a computer system that displayed animations on a screen. The infants could control the actions on the screen using a gaze-tracking system -u0026nbsp; looking at an object for a sufficient period of time led to the destruction of the object.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThe infants then watched a video where one geometric agent appeared to “hurt” another, and watched whether the infants “punished” the antisocial geometric agent by gazing at it. The results showed that infants chose to punish the aggressor by increasing their gaze towards the aggressor.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003e“The observation of this behavior in very young children indicates that humans may have acquired behavioral tendencies toward moral behavior during the course of evolution,” said Kanakogi. Punishing antisocial behaviour could have evolved from the importance of cooperation.u0026nbsp;u003c/pu003enu003c!– /wp:paragraph –u003ennu003c!– wp:paragraph –u003enu003cpu003eThis could be a turning point in infant cognitive research and the study of decision making. Previous research has relied on third party observations to study infant cognition.
