Wigan vs Reading

Wigan climbed into the first half of the championship with a winning back-to-back away win and could score their first home win of the season against fourth-placed Reading on DW Stadium.

The top priority for most of the emerging clubs is to get out of the relegation zone but Wigan seemed comfortable at the top level and could be a real candidate to finish the first half.

Lim Richardson’s side had one bad experience when they lost 5-1 at home to Burnley, but they responded positively, with seven points from three games, and should feel confident before the weekend.

Reading is two points better but it is unlikely that they will continue to be inside the qualifying places.

The Royals have lost on three of their four tours in the tournament and their home record of 100 per cent ended with a 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on Tuesday.

The Reading Bull Insey manager wants to rejuvenate his squad but he has a small squad and may feel he has no choice but to rely on largely the same players.

Ince has downplayed the reading challenge for the top six and expectations may be further dented by the second loss in four days.

Bristol Rovers vs Lincoln

Lincoln’s 2-0 home win against Derby was one of the most eye-catching League One results on Tuesday and could be quickly followed by Imps’ victory over Bristol Rovers.

Mark Kennedy’s side were in need of a boost after three league games without a win, but they were worthy winners against the Derby and moved up one point from the first half.

Kennedy will be asking for more of the same, and if standards are maintained, his team should be more than a game for Rovers, who are not winning in six.

Rovers sent off defensive duo Alfie Kilgore and Bobby Thomas during the closing stages of Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich and they may struggle to avoid another defeat.

Bolton vs Peterborough

Bolton moved into the top six in the league after his comfortable 2-0 win at MK Dons on Tuesday and the promotion challenge can be preserved with a home win over Peterborough.

The Trotters continue to admire the quality of their football under Ian Evatt and should have the answers against the failing Posh, who are in a five-game losing streak.

Northampton – Rochdale

Northampton remain in the midst of the second-league promotion race despite a host of injuries early in the season and appear to be a strong candidate to beat Rochdale at Sixfields.

Cobblers get a few of their main men back off the treatment table and shouldn’t be stretched out by the unbeatable Dale, who is rooting at the bottom of the table with just two points.
