A slew of videos purporting to show in-game development footage for GTA 6 have been pasted across various online forums this morning, because apparently no one can wait for the video game to actually end anywhere before feeling compelled to spoil it for all and variety.
The 80 clips seem to show everything from full in-game scenarios to unfinished parts of gray boxing, but you won’t find a link to them here, because the truth is, they’re simply not worth looking at. What potential benefit could they offer anyone here, now? The leaker definitely gets five minutes of fame and a stream of new followers. But GTA 6 itself won’t look like what you see in those clips when it’s actually finished, so someone tell me, what’s the point?
Rockstar first announced that they were officially working The next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series Back in February, saying work was “in full swing.” They also cited game development as the main reason why they stayed away from further development Red Dead Online major updatesOver the past few years, we have been steadily pursuing more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. […] As a result, we’re making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online. ”
It’s clear that development is going on by leaps and bounds, so by all accounts, these latest leaks look reasonably legitimate. But what if it was legitimate? As mentioned above, most clips don’t show full scenes. They are just checkerboard shaped blanks with a few character models swirling around them. (I haven’t seen all 80 individual clips, but judging by a screenshot showing a large set of thumbnails of the leaked footage, they seem to make up the vast majority of them.) What can that tell us about what GTA 6 will look like when Rockstar is actually ready for its presentation? nothing. Nothing at all.
Listen, I see there’s kind of a thrill in seeing something you’re not supposed to see – from sticking it on a guy especially when the guy’s in his last years He didn’t have the best track record To treat their employees very well. But even this has happened began to changeStaff recently told Bloomberg that Rockstar has largely cleaned up their act since the big crisis report came out in the lead-up to Red Dead Redemption 2’s release, and that its cultural shift has also affected the kinds of characters we’re dealing with. She’ll allegedly be playing in the next GTA as well – she’s said to be a latin woman who’s part of a duo along the lines of Bonnie & Clyde, a series first. That doesn’t mean Rockstar automatically gets a free pass now, of course. But there is clearly more going on behind the scenes that we might be aware of from the outside (except for actual work there), and sharing these leaks as a way to turn the bird over to senior management seems increasingly flimsy as an excuse.
Now, of course, RPS has reported all kinds of files Leaks before, and we will continue to do so when we feel it is worth doing. Personally, though, I hate them too, and I honestly’d rather wait until there’s a proper trailer to forgive. Prefer a game with some actual gameplay, rather than being cinematic, of course, but really, all I want is to see a game unfold as the developers originally intended it to be, and to have the chance to get excited about something that really has substance. Consider me a sucker, but I enjoy the wizard-style prowess of Big Reveal, which snippets of gameplay footage devoid of any kind of context simply cannot achieve.
I always think of the Mario & Rabbids disaster when things like this happen, which I’ll totally admit I thought looked absolutely awful when those leaks first came out, just days before the big E3 reveal. But it’s even more deceiving, because not only did it turn out to be the best thing Ubisoft has produced in years, it was also one of the highlights of this entire year’s E3. Context is everything when you’re dealing with something new – something that is often lacking in leakage. These supposed GTA 6 clips definitely go in the context box meaningless, so please, don’t bother. Why ruin the surprise for yourself?
