on the new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max phones announced WednesdayThe notch is reimagined as a bean-shaped cutout that can become part of other things you normally do while using the phone. Apple calls this dynamic island. (Yes, Apple has been too butt early jokes about the feature name.)

along with iPhone 14 Pro and Max screen always onDynamic Island is one of two new dual-screen features that are exclusive to the more expensive and more powerful models in the iPhone 14 lineup. If you are thinking of purchasing a file iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max Pre-orders start September 9th, with a release date of September 16th – or you’re simply curious about trying the updated Apple score so poorly, here’s everything you need to know.

iPhone 14 Pro dynamic island cutout: what does it do?

Dynamic Island is a new feature on the top of the iPhone 14 Pro models that reimagines the notch as a cutout. Depending on what you’re doing on your phone, the look and size changes to display timely notifications and information for current actions and ongoing background activities.

Here are some of the things Apple said Dynamic Island will appear as some kind of notification or info bar at the top of the iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max screen:

  • Arrival time for shared transportation services such as Lyft
  • Step-by-step navigation with Apple Maps
  • Contact information and call length for phone calls
  • Battery percentage when charging iPhone or AirPods
  • Cover image when playing songs from Apple Music
  • Transit Card Payments
  • sports results
  • Flight information
  • timer length
  • Payments with Face ID
  • Files sent using AirDrop
  • mute icon

We’ll continue to update this list with more features as we learn more, especially when we get a chance to play with the Dynamic Island feature on iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max ourselves.

What if you do two things on your iPhone 14 Pro at once?

If you have two things happening in the background, like a phone call and a timer, Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be split into two to show you information about each of your activities, for example, a timer and a phone call.

Can you click on the dynamic island? yes!

On iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, if you press and hold Dynamic Island while viewing information, it may expand to display more.

For example, if you click on the chapter while playing a song in Apple Music, you can check the song title, artist name, and control the music (pause, play, rewind, and forward). If you click the chapter when viewing the departure time for a flight, it may also display locations, baggage details, potential delays, and more.

If you click on Dynamic Island, you will be redirected to the application that currently displays the information in the class.

What apps and services will the new iPhone 14 Pro work with?

You can expect Dynamic Island to work with most Apple features, services, and apps, and some third-party apps like Lyft.

Live Activities, a new iOS 16 widget on your lock screen that displays interactive and updated notifications, will work seamlessly with Dynamic Island to display information from third-party apps on both the lock screen and the home screen. We expect more app makers to join in the future.

So will the dynamic island completely replace the notch?

Yes, the pill-shaped Dynamic Island aperture does not replace the larger notch featured on previous iPhone models, such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12. However, there is still a smaller notch, hidden beneath the Dynamic Island, that houses the camera, speaker, and Face ID components. While the dynamic island changes size, it can’t completely disappear due to the degree – it’s like a camouflage.

Will other iPhones get Dynamic Island?

Currently, Dynamic Island is only available on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Both models will be released on September 16, but you can pre-order both phones from Friday, September 9. We can’t say for sure if Apple will bring Dynamic Island to future iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch models, but we’ll be watching closely how the feature works and whether it delivers on its promise.
