LIMERICK GAA has confirmed a 33% price reduction for their training jersey, which was launched to help raise funds for the team holiday for winners across Ireland.
The unique jersey was revealed on Wednesday night but there was a lot of public upheaval at the initial €150 price tag.
On Thursday afternoon, Limerick GAA confirmed the €50 price drop.
“Limerick GAA wishes to acknowledge concerns raised by supporters regarding the cost of the recently launched Limerick GAA Training Shirt in a campaign to raise money for the Limerick Big Team Vacation Fund,” a statement confirming the new pricing read.
“Since winning the All-Ireland Bomber Final, and completing 3 wins in a row, planning has been ongoing to arrange a holiday for the winning team, management, backroom team and their partners. This was done as a reward for the hard work and dedication involved in winning the All-Ireland title. Players, management and teams are sacrificing background with hours of their lives each week in an effort to secure the coveted medal in the GAA. To that end, the team holiday is a reward for the team and their partners for the sacrifices made,” outlined the Limerick GAA statement.
“With international travel increasing the cost of a team holiday to include players, management, the backroom team and their partners, Limerick County Council is solely responsible for paying this cost. To that end, the unique opportunity to purchase this special jersey jersey has been launched as a fundraiser to offset some of these Cost. The team has not traveled on a team holiday yet this year.”
The statement concluded: “When launching the Limerick GAA Initiative it was aware of the current economic situation and tried to keep the cost as reasonable as possible. But based on the response of our loyal supporters, we have listened to the comments and to this end we now confirm that the cost will be reduced to €100.”
“Limerick GAA appreciates the huge loyal fan base we have and looks forward to a successful campaign in 2023.”
The training shirt is now on sale at €100 at www.limerickgaa.ie/shop The closing date is October 14, 2022 at 4pm.
For €100, fans receive a training jersey with the names of all participants, along with a Limerick GAA logo beanie and a personal message from Limerick’s throwing director John Kiely and captain Declan Hannon.
Limerick GAA confirmed that “those who have already purchased at the original price will be refunded the difference and we will contact them in the coming days.”
Limerick GAA has teamed up with O’Neills on a fundraising project where fans will have the opportunity to have their name on a specially commissioned training jersey, which John Kiely’s top pitchers will wear during matchday warm-ups as they kick off. In defense of the Liam McCarthy Cup next January in the Monster Hurling League.
