Sunday: Best Eco World, Dubai Flying Five Stakes, Coorg

The already remarkable rise to stardom for the Highfield Princess became even more extraordinary in the Flying Five Stakes, as the thrilling mare crushed her rivals at Curragh to complete an unprecedented trio of international group 1 races in just five weeks.

Trainer John Quinn hailed the five-year-old star as “one of the best sprint foals in the world” after his formidable enhancer became the first horse on Sunday to win the Dubai-backed Basset Equiworld, the Maurice de Guest and Nonthorpe Stakes. in the same season.

Kicked out at 5-4, the Highfield Princess wouldn’t have provided many moments of doubt for its fans with its €400,000 fast and furious prize, traveling with great gusto under the lead of regular racer Jason Hart.

This first set of 19 runners was effectively executed and dusted off inside the last furlong as she worked home to finish three lengths and a quarter lengths off Erosandpsyche, coached by Paddy Twomey and Flotus, reps Simon and Ed Crisford.

“She is an exceptional filly,” said Quinn of home Tipperary, who wowed with his first group success back home.

“She is one of the best sprint fillies in the world. Someone told me the day before yesterday she was probably the best filly in Europe. I never said anything like in the race you let the horse do the talking, but to win 3 sets 1 in France, England and Ireland Brilliant is unbelievable. In a short time too.”

Hart, who scored his first big strike aboard the same mare in Deauville last month, believes the 12-time winner felt better than ever at the start of her 30th career.

“Knowing I got into my last furling was giving me some feeling – and that’s the best feeling she’s really given me all year,” Hart said.

“I’ve gone from strength to strength. Three 1’s while rebounding requires a bit of work, in relatively quick succession as well. The manager, [her groom Satrijeet] Jhingree and all the guys in the house have done a great job keeping it on top of its game.”

Owner and breeder John Fairley, owner of the winning trainer, is enjoying the trip of a lifetime with his mare Night Of Thunder, who less than two years ago scored his first win of the 58 mark on a handicap of just £5,593 at Ayr.

Victory at Longines Irish Champions Weekend means the Highfield Princess has now joined the likes of Dayjur, Black Caviar, Blue Point and Muhaarar to win three consecutive Group One races.

The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint mile is now firmly on the agenda, and Hart is excited about the prospect of rendezvous with American champion Golden Pal in Keeneland.

He said, “It would be great to go take out Golden Pal and see how we get there. She’s on the right track to do it. She’s really amazing.”

Quinn added, “If she’s okay then that’s the plan. In the spring she was doing well and I said to Sean [Quinn, assistant trainer] I’d love to see her roaming Keeneland – two could fit her more than five and a half furlongs. You are not going to France for Abbaye. God Almighty, she was everywhere.”
