While Destiny 2 has taken steps to scale back future vault content, saying that they will no longer remove expansion content from the game from now on, as they did with Forsaken, adding editing It raises new questions about what seasonal Jump content will do for the game.
Bungie has made it clear that they will continue to remove seasonal content year after year. This is typically three months of activities and loot that keeps the game alive all year long, while some permanent additions remain, like dungeons sold separately and free remastered raids like King’s Fall.
But this raises a question the closer we get to Lightfall given the current way crafting works, which relies heavily on RNG to get enough patterns for crafting. What happens when the clock starts ticking before the new expansion?
Right now we’ve been through 3 seasons which means we have 12 months to find and craft Risen’s weapons and 9 months to find and craft haunted weapons. We now have 6 months for Plunder’s weapons, and then just 3 months to get wiped out to get everything before this season, and all that’s left, before Lightfall.
Bungie hasn’t been great overall at bringing back seasonal weapons, with many of them seemingly gone forever. But in cases where we have ancient seasonal weapons, like the Worthy Seraph weapons that drop as global loot, it raises questions about how anyone on Earth would be able to craft patterns for actually making those weapons, without dedicated sources for those drops. It’s really hard to find some of these items while playing an entire season that is theoretically designed to give styles, so what happens when your loot is gone or has the 5% drop you got now?
This is a question that Bungie hasn’t addressed, but it’s a new dimension of content vault that will only get more compelling the closer we get to Lightfall. While not, I don’t imagine they would just give a gift to everyone who made patterns from the previous year’s weapon once everything was done, and this makes common suggestions to make hunting less stressful than it is currently. Some of these ideas include:
1) Knock down the style requirement for Seasonal Weapons 5 through 3.
2) Make sure you have bad luck protection so you don’t go unbelievably long periods without patterns
3) Make it a knockout system so you don’t get 11 styles for 1 seasonal weapon before you get 2 for another weapon
The point is, make this a normal amount of playing time that will allow players to craft these weapons by the end of the season. Not forcing players to grind like absolute insane (which I’ve been doing for loot, and I still miss weapons), especially when there’s a hard time limit when all content is removed and the grinding ends with force.
This may not seem urgent at the moment, but when Lightfall approaches and players find themselves still missing out on dozens of styles on weapons that may be about to be removed for good, I can promise you there will be some level of horror. Overall, I think the industry grind needs to be less severe than it is, at least in terms of initial pattern gain. We’ll see if Bungie changes anything next season, because they really haven’t changed anything this season and, in many ways, made it worse.
