Harry Redknapp: owner of Moktasaab

Written by Charlie Huggins

Harry Redknapp has received offers from Leap Etisalat for ex-owned Shadwell Moktasaabwho won twice for the former football manager.

The four-year-old Khaid – who Shadwell bought for 500,000 tons – earned the 20 runners in Newbury in April on his debut for Redknapp and Newmarket coach William Knight, before quickly following up at Goodwood that same month.

Maktsab was narrowly denied a third win for the former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham coach, who returned to Newbury last Friday and can be seen after hurdles in time. Redknapp, 75, was in Warwick on Tuesday for the first midlands track meet of the fall from Poundland, along with other celebrities such as Colin Jackson and Chris Hughes.

“I don’t go racing as often as I used to,” Redknapp said. “I kind of pick and choose my meetings a little bit now but I went to Newbury on Friday and had a great day.

“I had an acquired runner who was doing very well. He should have won on Friday, we only got hit in the neck at the end. We just beat Ralph Beckett’s Sam Cooke who won by over a mile and six but was back by a mile and a half.

“We were cruising all over the place far away, and Sam Cooke came right back to us on the line. All the hops the boys are trying to buy from me.”

When asked if he had any preference for Flat or Jumps racing, Redknapp said: “I like everything. I have flat horses with William Knight and Gary Moore. Jumping horses with Gary and Fergal [O’Brien] And Ben Bowling I have some really good jumpers.”

Among the Redknapp horses in Pauling’s care are last year’s Tolworth Hurdle runner-up Shakem Up’Arry, who won once on fences last season before ending his campaign with a decent third in the Chasing Red Rum for the Handicapped at the Grand National Meeting.

Bowtogreatness also finished his season at Aintree 11th in the first grade Sefton Novice Hurdle, but there are hopes that the two-time winner will be able to pass this hurdle.

Shaqm a naked father Nice horse but I think the other horse that Ben got, Bowtogreatness, is going to be a really good horse this year,” he said.

Redknapp also made a long-term investment by purchasing a horse with former Paul Nicholls assistant coach Harry Derham, who was growing his leads with the help of puppet sales agent Ed Bailey before saddle up his first runners in 2023.
