Institutional Access

Access to content on Oxford Academic is often provided through subscriptions and institutional purchases. If you are a member of an organization with an active account, you may be able to access the Content in one of the following ways:

IP based access

Usually, access is provided over an enterprise network to a set of IP addresses. This authentication occurs automatically, and it is not possible to log out of an authenticated IP account.

Log in with your organization

Select this option for remote access when you are outside your organization. Shibboleth / Open Athens technology is used to provide single sign-on between your institution’s website and Oxford Academic.

  1. Click Sign in with your organization.
  2. Select your institution from the list provided, which will take you to your institution’s website to log in.
  3. When you are on the institution’s website, please use the credentials provided by your institution. Do not use a personal account with Oxford Academic.
  4. After successfully logging in, you will be taken back to Oxford Academic.

If your institution is not listed or you cannot log into your institution’s website, please contact your librarian or administrator.

Sign in with the library card

Enter the library card number to log in. If you cannot log in, please contact the librarian.

community members

Community members’ access to a journal is achieved in one of the following ways:

Log in through the community site

Many communities offer single sign-on between the community website and Oxford Academic. If you see “Login via community site” in the login pane within a journal:

  1. Click Sign in with the community site.
  2. When you are on the community site, please use the credentials provided by that association. Do not use a personal account with Oxford Academic.
  3. After successfully logging in, you will be taken back to Oxford Academic.

If you do not have a community account or have forgotten your username or password, please contact your community.

Some communities use personal Oxford Academic accounts to provide access to their members. see below.

The personal account can be used to receive email alerts, save searches, purchase content, and activate subscriptions.

View your login accounts

Click the account icon in the upper right for:

  • View your logged in personal account and access account management features.
  • View the institutional accounts that provide access.

Signed in but can’t access content

Oxford Academic is home to a wide variety of products. An enterprise subscription may not cover the content you are trying to access. If you believe you should have access to this content, please contact the librarian.

Corporate Account Management

For librarians and administrators, your personal account also provides access to corporate account management. Here you’ll find options to view and activate subscriptions, manage organizational settings and access options, access usage statistics, and more.
